For three generations of chocolate eaters, Johnson family has been making handmade chocolates in the Hilltop neighborhood in Tacoma. Behind the glass at the front counter, visitors will find hand-dipped truffles, salted caramels, pecan turtles and dozens of other chocolate confections dipped on site at the neighborhood candy shop.
Buy the candy by the pound – priced between $19 to $20.50 a pound – and the counter workers will wrap up whatever you fill that box with.
Just beyond the counter, find box after box filled with assorted truffles, creams, nuts and chews. Prices range from $9.50 for a half-pound box that comes prettily wrapped to $41 for the big kahuna two-pound box.
Here’s a hot tip – I spotted vegan chocolate for the first time. Find the display at the back of the store.
