CLOSED: Tacoma’s Pizza Press on 6th Ave is gone
Pizza Press opened in June 2018, nudged between the Locust Cidery, and The Pine Room Events Center in Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue neighborhood. When it opened, I described it as something like Mod Pizza, but with a beer list you actually want to drink. Its proximity next door to Locust Cider (2805 Sixth Ave., Tacoma; 206-494-5968) was a win for parents everywhere.
Members of Where to Dine Pierce County have been messaging me for a few weeks reporting the closure. What’s next for the location? I’m uncertain, but I’ll keep an eye on public records.
I tried to get in touch with the owner to see if I could figure out the reason behind the closure. Unfortunately, I discovered that the owner, Brian Howe, died in September.
I reached out to Howe’s family and I’ll update this post if I get to speak with one of them. His family wrote in his obituary that he had battled colon cancer for four years. As they wrote in his obituary, “Most recently, Brian accomplished his life-long dream of owning a restaurant when he opened the Pizza Press on 6th Avenue, in Tacoma. He loved having a great place to spend quality time with family and friends, and to enjoy pizza and craft beer.” Indeed, Pizza Press was a neat little find for families and beer lovers in the middle of an adult-centric entertainment district. His work was appreciated.
Sending condolences to his family.
