Once again, Christmas dinner won’t look like it has in the past for any of us.
Who could ever have predicted the most important ingredient during the 2020 holiday dining season would be Webex and Microsoft Teams?
Big sigh.
With pandemic guidelines suggesting we all skip big gatherings, diners likely will cook smaller meals.
Or how about skipping messing up your kitchen and letting somebody else do all that work?
I’m here to help. Here’s a list of restaurants offering take-out and delivery.
This list is small to start out as of today, but just as with my Thanksgiving 2020 dining story, this will grow, so please keep checking back.
ASADO
The Argentinean steakhouse in Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue neighborhood is coming through again with a swell sounding dinner pack. Chef Hudson Slater has two different dinner options – one is a prime rib dinner and the other is a glazed pork loin dinner. Here are details:
The menu: A holiday prime rib meal for four includes herb crusted roasted prime rib, rosemary au jus for re-cooking, horseradish creme fraiche, roasted garlic fingerling potatoes, grilled vegetables, poblano artichoke cheese dip appetizer, citrus fennel salad and dulce de leche bread pudding with cinnamon whipped cream. Comes with Macrina potato baguette with chimichurri butter.
The holiday pork loin dinner comes in portions of two or four and includes cider-currant glazed pork loin, roasted garlic fingerling potatoes, grilled vegetables, poblano artichoke cheese dip appetizer, citrus fennel salad and dulce de leche bread pudding with cinnamon whipped cream.
Prices: $220 for the prime rib meal for 4; $92 for the pork loin meal for 2; $184 for the pork loin meal for 4; $72 for the bonus add-on pack of three wines.
Reheat at home: Yes, they are fully cooked and only need to be reheated.

CARR’S RESTAURANT
This Lakewood restaurant known for its big portions and menu of American classics is offering mix-and-match meals that serve from two to six. The menu includes:
Menu: Dinner choices include prime rib, beef medallion or carved ham dinners, each feeding 2-3 or 4-6 eaters. Pick a protein – prime rib, beef medallion, or ham – for the main course, then choose from a starch (garlic mashed potatoes, au gratin, sweet potato-root veggie blend), bread (dinner rolls, garlic baguette or rosemary-parmesan. Or, add focaccia, w/upcharge), a side dish (asparagus, cold pea and bacon salad, mac and cheese, collard greens, grilled broccolini. Add roasted tri-color carrots w/candied pecans and goat cheese, w/upcharge), plus a dessert (cherry, apple or pecan pie, chocolate peppermint mousse, holiday cookies). Extra a la carte items also available.
Prices: Ham dinners are $50 (serving 2-3) and $95 (4-6). Beef medallion dinners are $65 (2-3) and $120 (4-6). Prime rib dinners are $90 (2-3) and $175 (4-6).

This Tacoma caterer that operates on the Foss Waterway in the West of the Waterway Events Center is offering two Christmas dinner choices, plus a Christmas breakfast offering. They have sugar cookie decorating kits, too. The menu includes:
Menu: Prime rib dinner for up to four eaters comes with sliced prime rib with red wine au jus and horseradish, roasted-glazed Brussels sprouts, cavatappi mac and cheese, rosemary red potatoes, holiday salad with pear vinaigrette and rolls with butter.
The ham dinner for up to four eaters comes with maple honey glazed sliced ham, roasted glazed Brussels sprouts, cavatappi mac and cheese, rosemary red potatoes, holiday salad with pear vinaigrette and rolls with butter.
Christmas breakfast pack for up to four eaters includes breakfast quiche with either bacon, gouda and broccoli OR sauteed veggies and parmesan cheese. Includes cinnamon rolls, homestyle potatoes and biscuits with jam and butter.
Cookie decorating kits include 10 holiday cookies, sprinkles and frosting in three colors.

The downtown Tacoma restaurant will have a Christmas dinner package it will offer for pickup or delivery within Tacoma on December 24. Details are still being planned, but here are the basics:
The menu: Beef or vegetarian Wellington, glazed carrots, hasselback Potato, Tunnel Cake
Price: $75 for the dinner for two with a bottle of wine
Add on: Christmas Breakfast with Chef Victor’s signature cinnamon rolls, candied bacon and a mimosa kit for a total of $100

THE OPAL LOUNGE
This South Tacoma barbecue spot is offering prime rib and slow-smoked brisket by-the-pound.
Menu: Prime rib is priced $25 a pound with a $50 non refundable deposit applied toward the total cost of the meal. Available in ¼, ½ or full portions, weighing 3 to 12 pounds, post-smoked weight.
Smoked brisket is $17 a pound, post-cooked weight.
Add-ons: Get a small horsey sauce or au jus for $3; large for $5. The restaurant’s side dish menu is also available for ordering.
